MARION, Ind. -- The Indiana Wesleyan University men’s tennis team downed cross-county rival Taylor (Ind.) 8-1 on Tuesday night in Crossroads League action at the Sutter Tennis Center.
Indiana Wesleyan improves its record to 5-2 overall and 4-1 in Crossroads League action. Taylor falls to 1-5 overall and in league competition.
The Wildcats easily swept doubles matches to begin with a 3-0 lead as the singles contests began. Kyle Johnson and Brandon Dubuque crushed their No. 1-doubles opponent 8-0, Gavin White and Leonard Mathews cruised to an 8-3 victory in No. 2-doubles, and the No. 3-doubles tandem of Adam Wroughton and Alex Hornett won 8-6.
The top four singles players for Indiana Wesleyan won in straight sets. Johnson won No. 1-singles and Dubuque earned the point in No. 2 singles by identical scores of 6-1, 6-2. Mathews won his No. 3 match 6-1, 6-1 while White did not drop a game in a 6-0, 6-0 win at No. 4-singles. Daniel Smith pulled out a three set victory 6-3, 2-6, 10-5 in No. 5-singles and Kamen Tabor lost 7-6, 6-4 in the No. 6 competition.
Indiana Wesleyan looks to keep its momentum as they play again on Thursday versus Olivet Nazarene. The match begins at 4 p.m. at the Sutter Tennis Center.
