UPLAND, Ind. -- The Indiana Wesleyan University women’s tennis team finished off Grant County rival Taylor (Ind.) 7-2 on Wednesday night in Crossroads League action in Upland, Indiana.
The Wildcats quickly got on their way to the team victory with a sweep in all three doubles matches. Katie Wilson and Kim Mella earned an 8-2 win in No. 1-singles and Kristin Futrell and Rachel Bottorff pulled out an 8-3 victory in No. 2-doubles. The No. 3-doubles team of Courtney Siepman and Ellen Hornett completed the doubles sweep with an 8-5 victory.
Indiana Wesleyan proceeded to take four of six singles matches for the final score of 7-2.
Wilson, Bottorff, and Rachael Heiniger each won as Indiana Wesleyan earned victories in the top three singles contests. Wilson won 6-1, 6-3 in No. 1-singles, Bottorff came back to win 4-6, 7-5, 10-5 in the second position, and Heiniger captured a 6-4, 6-3 win in No. 3-singles. Futrell won the fourth IWU singles match in the No. 5 spot with a 7-5, 6-0 victory. Mella fell 3-6, 6-2, 9-11 in No. 4-singles and Siepman lost the No. 6 match 6-7, 2-6.
Indiana Wesleyan improves to 8-0 overall in the fall season and 6-0 in Crossroads League play. Taylor drops to 5-2 and 4-2 in league play. IWU next competes at 4 p.m. tomorrow as the team travels to Richmond, Indiana to play IU East.
