MARION, Ind. -- Thursday was a long night for both the Indiana Wesleyan University and Olivet Nazarene (Ill.) men’s tennis teams. Not only did the match go long in a 5-4 decision for Olivet Nazarene but the teams had to stop the match due to rain and move indoors at Greentown, Indiana.
Before the rains came Indiana Wesleyan held a 2-1 advantage following the completion of doubles play.
Kyle Johnson and Brandon Dubuque won the top doubles match 8-5 as did the No. 2-team of Leonard Mathews and Gavin White. The third doubles tandem of Kaman Tabor and Adam Wroughton lost an 8-3 decision.
Johnson and Wroughton would be the only victors for Indiana Wesleyan in singles matches. Johnson won the No. 1 match 4-6, 6-3, 6-4 while Wroughton won 6-0, 6-2 in No. 6-singles. Dubuque lost a three set match in No. 2-singles by scores of 7-5, 4-6, 6-2. Mathews lost 6-2, 6-2 in No. 3-singles, White lost 6-3, 6-4 in No. 4-singles, and Smith lost 6-4, 7-5 in the fifth match.
Indiana Wesleyan returns to the courts at 10 a.m. on Saturday versus Saint Francis (Ind.) at the Sutter Tennis Center.
