MARION, Ind. -- Indiana Wesleyan University women’s tennis improved to a perfect 11-0 on the season with a 9-0 shutout of visiting Saint Francis (Ind.) on Saturday morning at the Sutter Tennis Center.
Indiana Wesleyan also stays perfect in the Crossroads League standings with a 7-0 record. Their biggest league match of the season looms on Tuesday at Marian (Ind.).
In doubles, Katie Wilson and Kim Mella teamed at the No. 1-position and earned the point with an 8-2 victory while Kristen Futrell and Rachel Bottorff took an 8-1 win in the No. 2 match. Saint Francis defaulted at the No. 3 game due to lack of players.
Five singles match were contested because Saint Francis did not have a player to fill the sixth match. Wilson won 6-3, 6-2 in the top singles match, Bottorff won 6-0, 6-1 at No. 2-singles, and Rachael Heiniger easily won 6-1, 6-1 in the No. 3 game. Gabby D’Aniello played the No. 4-singles match and won 6-1, 6-2 while Mikayla Marazzi claimed the point in the fifth match by a score of 6-1, 6-1.
Indiana Wesleyan will next compete at 3 p.m. on Tuesday in a huge Crossroads League match at Marian (Ind.) in Indianapolis, Indiana. IWU and Marian are the only two league teams remaining with a perfect record.
