MARION, Ind. -- The fall regular season is in the books for the Indiana Wesleyan University women’s tennis team as they defeated Cornerstone (Mich.) 9-0 today in non-league action at the Sutter Tennis Center.
Indiana Wesleyan completes the fall schedule with a 13-0 record. IWU is the No. 1-seed for the Crossroads League Tournament which begins next week.
The Wildcats captured two shutouts in doubles play today. Katie Wilson and Kim Mella won the top match 8-0 while Sarah Richert and Diane Jones teamed for an 8-0 win in No. 3 play. Kristen Futrell and Rachel Bottorff would win 8-4 in the No. 2 competition.
All six Wildcats won their singles matches in straight sets for the 9-0 final score.
Bottorff won 6-2, 6-0 in the first match while Rachael Heiniger won 7-5, 6-3 at No. 2-singles. Gabby D’Aniello won 6-1, 6-4 in No. 3 play and Mikayla Marazzi won 6-0, 6-2 in the fourth contest. Ellen Hornett won the point at No. 5-singles with a 6-2, 6-0 victory and Kelsey Vessels earned a 6-1, 6-0 win at No. 6-singles.
Indiana Wesleyan will host Saint Francis (Ind.) at 3 p.m. on Tuesday at the Sutter Tennis Center. The winner of the Crossroads League Tournament First Round match will advance to the Semifinals on Thursday.
