MARION, Ind. -- Seniors Rae and Rebecca Brandes have been selected to the Capitol One Academic All-District Women’s Volleyball Team, announced today by College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).
The Capitol One All-American program blends student-athletes work in both the classroom and on the field of play. Nominated student-athletes must be a starter or important reserve and maintain at least a 3.30 GPA. Game statistics and academic success are both considered by the voting CoSIDA members.
The Brandes sisters are two of the 10 selections in District 2. The selections were not based on position and were only from NAIA schools in the Indiana, Kentucky, and Illinois region. Rae and Rebecca are now eligible for the Capitol One Academic All-American Team which will be released later this year.
Rae is a senior outside hitter for Indiana Wesleyan and is an Athletic Training and Pre-Physical Therapy major. She is the team leader with 3.52 kills/set and is second with 3.10 digs/set. Rae was named to the 2012 Capitol One Academic All-American Second Team last season.
Rebecca is also a senior and is the libero for Indiana Wesleyan. She is an Elementary Education and Exceptional Needs Education major. She ranks in the top-10 nationally with 5.70 digs/set for Indiana Wesleyan as she plays strictly in the back row.
Indiana Wesleyan is 26-10 on the season and will play in the Crossroads League Tournament Semifinals tonight. IWU hosts Taylor (Ind.) in the semifinal match at 7 p.m. in Luckey Arena. Indiana Wesleyan won a share of the Crossroads League regular season championship with a 16-2 mark.
