MARION, Ind. -- Brittany Smith has signed a NAIA letter of intent to continue her soccer career at Indiana Wesleyan University in the fall of 2008.

Smith transfers to Indiana Wesleyan after one stellar season at Illinois Central College where she was named NSCAA Junior College Division I All-American First Team and NJCAA Division I All-American Second Team. Smith scored 12 goals and assisted on 11 others for Illinois Central, which finished the season ranked 12th in the NJCAA poll.

She was named Region 24 Player of the Year as her team won the Regional Championship. Illinois Central finished with a 18-4-1 record.

“Brittany will be a great addition to our team,” said IWU head coach Dr. John Bratcher. “She brings size, athletic ability and excellent soccer skills which will help us immediately.”

Smith, from Morton, Illinois, was a four-year varsity starter for the Morton High School varsity team. During those four seasons, Smith was named Rookie of the Year, 2004 and 2007 Mid-Illini All-Conference First Team, 2007 All-State team and the Peoria Journal Star All-Area team. She also holds the school’s single season assist record.

Smith will be a sophomore next fall with three years of eligibility.
