INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. -- Indiana Wesleyan University scored two goals late in the first half to defeat Marian (Ind.) College 3-1 on Tuesday night in Indianapolis, Indiana.
The win pushes the IWU record to 10-1-1 this season and 3-0-0 in the Mid-Central Conference. The Knights fall to 7-3-2 overall and 2-2-0 in conference action.
IWU senior David Lopez-Cepero got the Wildcats on the scoreboard late in the first half with a tally at 35:09 after his header attempt found its way off the Marian goalkeeper’s hands. Freshman Kyle Joern capped the first half scoring with another Wildcat goal at 43:39 after beating the keeper through his legs.
Indiana Wesleyan took a 2-0 lead into intermission.
The Wildcats were able to add an insurance goal at 76:26 as senior J.P. Bratcher assisted on junior Joel Trainer’s goal. Marian avoided the shutout with a goal at 79:59.
Indiana Wesleyan outshot Marian 12-9 for the match. MCC Defensive Player of the Week, sophomore Spencer Lang, earned the win in net for the Wildcats. He made three saves on the night.
Indiana Wesleyan returns to action at 3:15 p.m. on Saturday, October 6, as the Wildcats host the University of St. Francis (Ind.) during Homecoming weekend.
