CEDARVILLE, Ohio -- Indiana Wesleyan University men’s tennis has earned an automatic berth to the NCCAA National Tournament courtesy of a 7-2 victory at Cedarville (Ohio).
The two teams played this afternoon for the right to represent the NCCAA Midwest Region. IWU will now travel to Mobile, Alabaman for the May 6-9 tournament.
Doubles play quickly put Indiana Wesleyan in the driver’s seat with wins in all three matches. Leonard Matthews and Gavin White (FR/Lakeland, FL) won the top match 8-4 while Kyle Johnson (JR/East Moline, Ill.) and Brandon Dubuque (SO/Marion, IN) claimed an 8-2 victory at No. 2-doubles. Kamen Tabor (SO/Marion, IN) and Adam Wroughton (JR/Schereville, IN) completed the doubles sweep at No. 3-doubles with an 8-2 victory.
Johnson won No. 1-singles 6-2, 6-2 while Matthews took a 6-0, 6-1 victory in No. 3 play. White pulled out a 6-1, 6-1 point at No. 4 and Tabor was victorious 6-2, 6-2 at No. 6-singles. Dubuque won his first set 6-1 and then retired in the second set while he trailed 4-1. Daniel Smith (SO/Crown Point, IN) dropped the No. 5-singles match 6-3, 6-0.
Indiana Wesleyan improves to 13-9 on the season.
