MARION, Ind. -- Three NAIA Nationals qualifiers and two program records paced the Indiana Wesleyan University women’s indoor track and field team in a victory at the IWU Invitational on Saturday afternoon in the Outdoor Sports Complex.

Indiana Wesleyan’s 209 points out-distanced runner-up Lindenwood (Mo.) University’s 133.

Highlighting the afternoon for the Wildcats were three automatic NAIA national qualifiers.

The first was the 4 x 800-meter relay team, which finished in a time of nine minutes 36.18 seconds. The team consisted of senior Carly Horkman, freshman Cassidy Wagner, senior Ashley Bucher and junior Emily LaSala.

LaSala also automatically qualified for the Nationals as an individual. She did so in the mile run with a finishing time of 5:09.36. Her qualifying time also produced a new program record in the event.

Another member of the relay team also qualified for the NAIA meet as an individual. Bucher did so in the 800-meter run in a time of 2:19.84.

In addition to the national qualifiers, the 4 x 200-meter relay team broke the program record in a time of 1:48.97, set last year in at 1:48.99. The relay team was composed of freshman Ange Wolgemuth, junior Kristen Cline, senior Ashley Ruffer and sophomore Laura Bowman.

Next week the Wildcats will compete in the NCCAA Championships at 11 a.m. in Cedarville, Ohio.
