Upland, IN (February 23, 2008) – The NAIA No. 13 Indiana Wesleyan University women’s basketball team stepped up in overtime to pull ahead and defeat Mid-Central College Conference rival Taylor University 65-60 Saturday.

The Wildcats (26-4, 12-4) were led by senior Lisa Thompson and freshman Kayla Thompson.

Lisa Thompson scored 14 points and had a team-high 11 rebounds. Kayla Thompson added 14 points as well, while passing out 6 assists and pulling down eight rebounds.

The only other Wildcat in double-figures was senior Brooke Amstutz with 13 points.

The rivalry game lived up to its billing as neither team could pull away. The Trojans (16-13, 10-6) forced overtime in the final minute as they made four free throws to tie the game at 50-50 to end regulation.

Taylor took a lead to open the overtime, but Jena Schafer’s old-fashioned three-point play from the free throw line gave the Wildcats a 57-55 with two and a half minutes to play that IWU would never relinquish.

The Wildcats begin the first round of the MCC Conference Tournament Tuesday, February 26, at home against Spring Arbor University.
