
MARION, Ind. -- Six Indiana Wesleyan University women’s basketball players were honored by the Mid-Central College Conference for the 2007-08 season.
Topping the list for Indiana Wesleyan were All-MCC First Team selection Lisa Thompson and MCC Newcomer of the Year Kayla Thompson.
Senior center Lisa Thompson earned the honor for the first time in her career. She averaged 14.3 points and 6.2 rebounds during the regular season for the Wildcats. Thompson shot 61.5-percent from the field.
Freshman guard Kayla Thompson contributed 11.1 points, 4.2 rebounds and 4.2 assists per game in her rookie season. She was second on the team with 48 3-pointers made and 52 steals.
Also recognized for her play on the court was senior guard Brooke Amstutz who was named to the All-MCC Second Team. Amstutz was second on the team with 12.9 points per game in addition to 3.4 rebounds and 3.0 assists. She shot 49.2-percent from the floor and 81.3-percent from the free throw line.
Five Wildcats were acknowledged for their work in the classroom. Amstutz, junior center Kyra Pappas, junior guard Jena Schafer, Lisa Thompson and junior guard Tessa Umbaugh were each named to the All-MCC Academic Team.
Indiana Wesleyan is currently 26-4 this season and ranked No. 13 in the NAIA Division II poll.
The Wildcats open MCC Tournament play this week as the No. 2 seed and will host No. 7-seeded Spring Arbor (Mich.) University at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, February 26 in Luckey Arena.
