
JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. -- The Indiana Wesleyan University men’s indoor track and field team completed the program’s best ever finish at the NAIA Nationals in Johnson City, Tennessee over the weekend.
Indiana Wesleyan placed 13th in the national meet after accumulating 17.75 points. Wayland Baptist (Texas) University won the team championship with 71 points.
Four Wildcats amassed NAIA All-American status by placing in the top eight in their event. A pair of Wildcats earned All-American in two separate events.
Wildcat junior Josh Foss paced the record setting day for Indiana Wesleyan with a pair of national runner-up finishes. Foss finished second in the mile run with a time of four minutes 11.45 seconds.
Foss teamed with junior Bryan Hazel, senior Zach Weber and freshman Jason Wenzel to earn runner-up in the distance medley relay. The Wildcats completed the second fastest time in the event in school history with a time of 10:06.92. They earned the fastest time in program history a day earlier in the prelims at 10:03.31.
Weber was the other Wildcat to earn All-American. He placed fourth in the high jump at a height of 6 feet 6.75 inches.
Sophomore Thomas Collett barely missed All-American status with a ninth place finish in the long jump. His jump of 22 feet 11 inches broke a 22 year program record for Indiana Wesleyan.
Senior Kyle Boley earned a 10th place finish in the pole vault. Boley finished with a clear of 14 feet 9 inches.
For the women, Indiana Wesleyan was led by the 4 x 800-meter relay team consisting of senior Chelsey Horkman, freshman Melissa Morgan, senior Ashley Bucher and freshman Cassidy Wagner. The team finished eighth in a time of 9:40.86.
Freshman Katelin Morgan earned 11th in the long jump. She finished with a mark of 17 feet 10.25 inches.
Indiana Wesleyan will return to the outdoor track for the rest of the season. The Wildcats next meet is at 4 p.m. on Thursday, March 20, as IWU hosts the Polar Bear Invitational.
