
MARION, Ind. -- The Indiana Wesleyan University volleyball team has announced the signing of Lauryn Barfell for the 2008-09 season.
An All-Conference First Team selection the last two years, Barfell was named Most Valuable Player and team captain for the past two seasons.
“Lauryn is an excellent addition to our program as she bringssolid fundamental skills combined with natural athleticism,” said IWU head coach Candace Moats.“Her previous coaches, as well as her current experience on the Extreme 18's Rockford Volleyball Club, have made her a force to be reckoned with on the Wildcat Volleyball team. The key to Lauryn's success will be her passion for excellence and her terrific work ethic.”
Barfell played her senior season at Rockford Christian High School in Rockford, Illinois after spending her first three years at Blackhawk Christian High School in Fort Wayne, Indiana.
She is a five foot 10 inch middle blocker. She holds the Blackhawk Christian record for career blocks in only three seasons and was state ranked in the category in two different seasons.
Barfell is a member of National Honor Society and is a Honors student.
