2017 NAIA Women's Tennis Coaches' Top-25 Preseason Poll

MARION, Ind. -- The Indiana Wesleyan University women’s tennis team earned the program’s best ranking as the Wildcats are No. 7 in the NAIA Women’s Tennis Coaches’ Top-25 Preseason Poll.

The previous high for Indiana Wesleyan in the national poll was No. 8 which was achieved last season. That team advanced to the NAIA National Championship Quarterfinals for the first time in program history.

"It is an honor to be ranked No. 7 in the nation,” said IWU head coach Eddy Shigley. “However, that distinction is based off of the success of last year's team. This spring will be a wonderful test of the character of this year's team. I believe we are up for the challenge. The girls are ready and excited to start playing matches."

Indiana Wesleyan started the 2016-17 season with a 13-0 record during the fall season. IWU won the Crossroads League regular season and tournament championships to earn an automatic berth to the NAIA National Championship this May.

Defending national champion Georgia Gwinnett is the No. 1 team with 343 points and all 13 first place votes. Lindsey Wilson (Ky.) has 332 points for the second spot and SCAD Savannah earned 321 points for third place. Indiana Wesleyan received 276 points for the No. 8 spot.

Indiana Wesleyan opens the 2017 spring schedule on February 17 at No. 1 Georgia Gwinnett in Lawrenceville, Georgia.
