MARION, Ind. -- Indiana Wesleyan University football head coach Jordan Langs announced the hiring of Evan Knight and Chris Moore to the staff.
Knight is the Defensive Coordinator and Moore is the Run Game Coordinator and Assistant Head Coach. The pair join Langs, Offensive Coordinator Eric Terrazas, and Defensive Line Coach Josh Aldrin to give Indiana Wesleyan five coaches on staff.
“We are very excited to add Coach Knight and Coach Moore to the Wildcat Family,” stated Langs.
Knight comes to Indiana Wesleyan following two seasons as Linebacker Coach at NCAA Division I Saint Francis (Pa.). The Red Flash boasted one of the top defensive units in the country last year en route to their first ever NCAA playoff berth. Saint Francis was 12th in the nation in Scoring Defense with 19.8 points per game allowed and 14th Total Defense with 320 yards per game.
“Coach Knight is exactly what we were looking for in our Defensive Coordinator,” said Langs. “He is extremely intelligent and understands the game of football at a high level. In Coach Knight’s career he has demonstrated that he understands what it means to stay true to his Christian faith while also being dedicated to being his best in the profession. I am excited to watch him excel at IWU.”
Before Saint Francis, Knight spent the previous two years at his alma mater Central Missouri where he coached the defensive line, quarterbacks, and special teams. Knight was a four-year letter winner at Central Missouri where he started 28 games at linebacker and compiled 179 tackles. He was a four-time member of the MIAA Academic Honor Roll. While playing at Central Missouri, he led the university’s Fellowship of Christian Athletes for three years.
Knight grew up in Saint Louis, Missouri and is married to his wife Jessica who works as an intensive care unit nurse. The couple resides in Marion.
Moore spent the past three years at Trinity International (Ill.) University which is a member of the same league that Indiana Wesleyan has been accepted into, the Mid-States Football Association. He was promoted to Offensive Coordinator for the 2016 season where the Trinity International offense showed vast improvement with more than eight points per game than the season before. Moore coached four MSFA All-Conference players in 2016.
“Coach Moore comes to us with a load of relevant and important experience,” Langs stated. “He has done a wonderful job of displaying what it means to pursue excellence simultaneously in his coaching, but more importantly in his walk with Christ. His experience in competing in the MSFA along with being involved in starting up a program will be a big advantage for our entire coaching staff as we get this program off the ground.”
Indiana Wesleyan is Moore's second time building a program as he helped start NCAA Division II Alderson Broaddus University's (WV) program from 2010-2013. Before his time at Alderson Broaddus, Moore was the Running Backs and Tight Ends coach at NCAA Division II West Virginia Wesleyan.
Moore played four seasons at the NCAA Division I level. He graduated from Liberty (Va.) after playing three seasons on the offensive line at William and Mary (Va.). Following graduation, Moore got his start in coaching as a student assistant at Liberty.
Chris and his wife Kelsey live in Marion.
