MARION, Ind. -- Indiana Wesleyan University women’s tennis is pleased to announce the signing of Laura Moore from Westfield, Indiana.
Moore is the first recruit to sign for the 2017-18 season. She is currently a senior at Westfield High School where she has played No. 1 singles throughout her high school career. Last year she won the Hoosier Crossroads Conference and was named to the All-District Singles Team and All-State Singles Second Team by the Indiana High School Tennis Coaches Association and the Indiana Coaches of Girls Sports Association. Moore was selected All-Conference all three years.
She plays in local USTA tournaments in both singles and doubles and was a recipient of the USTA Midwest Sportsmanship Award. Moore is currently ranked No. 5 for all seniors in the state of Indiana and has been ranked as high as No. 421 nationally according to the Tennis Recruiting Network. She will be completing her senior season this spring.
Off the court, Moore is a member of the National Honor Society and volunteers at many non-profit organizations including Special Olympics, Hamilton County Humane Society, and Hamilton County Parks and Recreation. She has also co-authored a book called Champion Citizen: Sam McNew, Finding the Champion in You. Moore is involved in her local church, Grace Church and has served on mission trips within and outside of the U.S. She has a passion for the people of Haiti.
“Laura is a wonderful mission fit for IWU in every way – she has a love for Christ and a desire to grow spiritually,” said IWU head coach Eddy Shigley. “She has a sharp mind and maintains a fantastic GPA. She is an exceptional tennis player with a work ethic to get better.”
Moore enjoys hiking, spending time with family and friends, and writing poetry. She intends to major in Psychology and minor in Creative Writing. She is the daughter of Ed and Elizabeth Moore.
