GREENCASTLE, Ind. -- Indiana Wesleyan track and field had a strong showing at the first scoring meet of the outdoor season as the men were first of 12 teams and the women were second of 11 teams at the DePauw Invitational in Greencastle, Indiana.

The men tallied 165 team points as Taylor (Ind.) University was second with 121.5 points. The women earned 130.5 points as NCAA DIII power Illinois Wesleyan University captured the victory with 147 points.

Also at the meet were NCAA Division II foes St. Joseph (Ind.) College and Bellarmine (Ky.) University and NCAA Division I schools Valparaiso (Ind.) University and Butler (Ind.) University.

Junior Josh Foss broke a 28-year old record in the 1,500-meter run. Foss finished in a time of three minutes 53.82 seconds which automatically qualifies him for the NAIA Nationals.

Also qualifying for the NAIA national meet was senior Zach Weber in the high jump with a mark of six feet six inches. Junior John Bowman also bettered his qualifying mark in the discus with a toss of 169-7 feet.

For the women, freshman Katelin Morgan broke a two year old program record in the 400-meter hurdles. Morgan finished in a time of 1:04.60, good enough to qualify for the NAIA Nationals.

Also qualifying for the NAIA's were junior Emily LaSala in the 1,500-meter run (4:43.48) and the 5,000-meter run (18:02.96), senior Ashley Bucher in the 800-meter run (2:17.74) and the 4 x 100-meter relay team (49.35).

The men have now qualified in 32 events and the women 42 for the NCCAA Nationals which will be hosted at Indiana Wesleyan on May 1-3.

The Wildcats next meet is scheduled for April 11-12 at the Little State Championships in Indianapolis, Indiana.
