SILVIS, Ill. -- Jake Coffey is representing Indiana Wesleyan University as an individual at the 2017 NAIA Men’s Golf National Championship being held at TPC Deere Run in Silvis, Illinois.

Coffey fired an opening round 78 on Tuesday and is tied for 67th place in the 155 golfer field. All golfers play three rounds with cuts happening before the fourth and final round on Friday. The top-40 individuals advance to play on the final day.

“Jake’s preparation for the tournament was really good,” said IWU head coach Lorne Oke. “So we’re a little disappointed but there’s still a lot of golf to be played. He is only a couple shots out.”

Coffey is currently three strokes out as a large group of players are tied for 35th place with scores of 75.

Second round of play is on Wednesday with Coffey teeing off at 10:10 a.m. ET.
