MARION, Ind. -- The Indiana Wesleyan University baseball team set four program records and had five players recognized by the Crossroads League for the 2017 season.

Center fielder Brandon Shaffer was named to the All-Crossroads League team and catcher/first baseman Brady West was voted the Crossroads League Newcomer of the Year. Catcher Andrew Breytenbach, relief pitcher Kyle Hall, and starting pitcher Jon Young were recognized as All-Crossroads League Honorable Mention.

Shaffer finished his senior campaign by hitting .348 with 9 home runs, 18 doubles, and 39 RBI along with a team leading 17 stolen bases and 54 runs scored. West paced the Wildcats with a .350 average and 20 doubles and he tied for the team-lead with 10 home runs. Breytenbach hit .326 and had a team-best 61 RBI and tied for the team-lead with 10 home runs. Hall finished 3-1 this season with a 3.86 ERA. He did not allow a run in 13 of his final 16 appearances. Young wrapped up his rookie campaign with a 7-3 record and a 3.74 ERA in 77 innings of work.

Indiana Wesleyan added four new program records this season. The one pitching record IWU set was strikeouts in a season with 379. On the offensive side, Indiana Wesleyan set records with 68 home runs, 317 RBI, and a .478 slugging percentage.

Among the 27 Indiana Wesleyan wins this season, five came against NAIA Top-25 teams and national championship qualifiers. Indiana Wesleyan won a pair at Truett McConnell (Ga.) and had wins against IU Southeast, Lindsey Wilson (Ky.), and Huntington (Ind.).
