MARION, Ind. -- Indiana Wesleyan University Women's Basketball Coach Steve Brooks announces his third signing for the 2008-2009 basketball season. Krystal Stoneking, a two year starter and three year letter winner at Licking Valley High School in Ohio, has signed a letter of intent to further her education and play basketball at IWU.

Stoneking, a 6'1" forward from Newark, Ohio, averaged 20.3 points, 8.8 rebounds and 3.7 blocks per game during her senior season at Licking Valley. Following both her junior and senior seasons, Stoneking was named First Team Mid-State League, First Team District 11 and Third Team All-State in Division II. In addition, Stoneking was honored as the District 11 Player of the Year for her success on the court during her senior season. She is currently participating in track and competing in the 400-meters, high jump and long jump.

Stoneking said, "There are so many reasons why I chose to attend IWU. One of the main reasons is the Christian atmosphere and the beautiful campus. God is such a big focus at IWU and I knew that I would fit in. I fell in love with the school as soon as I stepped foot onto campus. The coaching staff is amazing. Coach Dobrik has done a wonderful job of recruiting me and making everything work out. Coach Brooks is a wonderful coach and a wonderful person, he really cares about his players which was another big factor in my decision. The final reason I chose IWU are the girls on the team. They treat everyone like family and really care about one another which you don't find very often. I look forward to growing in my relationship with Christ while at IWU".

"We are very excited for Krystal to become a member of the Lady Wildcat program," said head Coach Steve Brooks. "Krystal is a perfect fit for us, not just in the athletic sense but she is everything that the university is looking for in an overall Christian student. Krystal is a post player who will fit in nicely with our style of play because she is athletic and can run the floor and has the ability to score inside and out. As good as she is right now, we believe that Krystal has a great deal of potential to become even better. We look for great things from Krystal as she progresses through the program over the next four years".

The IWU basketball team finished the 2007-08 season with a 28-6 record, ranked No. 11 in the country and qualified for the NAIA National Tournament for the sixth straight season. A season ago, the Lady Wildcats completed a 38-0 season by winning the NAIA National Championship. This past season, they also broke an NAIA record for consecutive victories with 56.
