
MARION, Ind. -- Indiana Wesleyan University advanced to the NAIA National Tournament with an 8-1 victory over Marian (Ind.) College in the NAIA Region VIII championship match.
The national championships will be held from May 12-16 in Mobile, Alabama.
The Wildcats opened the match with a sweep in doubles competition.
The senior laden No. 1-doubles team of Brittany Raymond and Kristi Haddad and the No. 2-doubles team of freshmen Eva Delk and Lisa Massey each won 8-4. Sophomore Courtney Kooyers and junior Laura Helm held on for a 9-8 win in No. 3-doubles.
Indiana Wesleyan won singles matches from spots 2-6.
Junior Julia Hedgebeth (6-0, 6-0) won No. 2-singles, Delk (6-4, 6-4) captured No. 3-singles, Raymond (6-2, 6-0) won No. 4-singles, Massey (7-5, 6-2) earned the win in No. 5-singles and Haddad (6-0, 6-3) picked up the point in No. 6-singles.
Indiana Wesleyan improves to 20-2 this year and 7-2 during the spring season.
