MARION, Ind. -- Senior pitcher Brandon Moore was honored as the Mid-Central College Conference Player of the Year to highlight the Indiana Wesleyan University baseball team's post-season conference awards.
Joining Moore on the All-Conference team was senior shortstop Jeff Pierce while senior left fielder Shay Harden was Honorable Mention. Senior right fielder Matt Burthay was recognized for his defensive play this season and was named to the MCC Gold Glove Team.
Moore put up stellar numbers all season to earn the Player of the Year honor. To date, Moore is 8-3 with a 1.64 earned run average. He struck out 104 batters in 76-2/3 innings pitched. His 12.8 K/IP ratio is second in the NAIA while batters hit a paltry .174 against him, good for third in the nation.
"This award is voted on by the conference coaches which gives credence to the real dominant year that Brandon had on the mound," said Indiana Wesleyan head coach Mark DeMichael. "It's a great culmination of Brandon's career to receive this individual honor after all the hard work he's put in to become a dominant pitcher."
Pierce tallied team highs this season with a .362 average and .454 on-base percentage. He knocked in 30 RBIs and scored 29 runs.
Harden was second for the Wildcats with a .344 average, 38 RBIs, 37 runs scored and eight stolen bases. He led the team with 15 doubles.
Burthay earned the gold glove as he accumulated 45 putouts on the season. He also showcased a good arm as he gunned down seven runners trying to advance on the base paths.
Indiana Wesleyan is currently 26-21 on the season and will next compete in the NCCAA Midwest Regional Tournament in Cedarville, Ohio.
