MARION, Ind. -- Indiana Wesleyan University women's basketball head coach Steve Brooks announced his fourth signing for the 2008-2009 basketball season. Ashley Brooks, a four year starter at Eastbrook High School, has signed a letter of intent to further her education and play basketball at Indiana Wesleyan.
Ashley is the daughter of head coach Steve Brooks.
Brooks, a five foot seven inch guard, averaged 14.8 points and 4.2 assists per game during her senior season at Eastbrook. Brooks also shot 33-percent from 3-point range and 76-percent from the free throw line. Brooks was named to the All-Central Indiana Conference First Team three times during her high school career and was selected to the All-Grant County First Team following her senior season after receiving Second Team honors for her sophomore and junior years. Brooks was also honored as a member of the IBCA All-State Senior Honorable Mention Team as well as being named Academic All-State.
Brooks said, "I chose to attend Indiana Wesleyan because I love the Christian atmosphere and the incorporation into the schoolwork. The campus and buildings are beautiful. The basketball girls are amazing and such a tight-knit group. Plus, I have wanted to attend IWU and be a Lady Wildcat ever since my dad first took the job".
"We are very excited to have Ashley as a part of the Lady Wildcat basketball program," said Steve Brooks, "Ashley not only brings athleticism and a competitive spirit, she also has a real understanding of what it means to be a Lady Wildcat. She will provide depth for us on the perimeter. Her quickness, speed, and court awareness will help move our program forward as strive to be competitive in the always difficult Mid-Central Conference."
"It will be different for both of us as we work through the coach-player relationship," continued Steve Brooks. "I am looking forward to the next four years and being able to see all of her games, which wasn't always the case throughout her high school career".
The IWU basketball team finished the 2007-08 season 28-6, ranked No. 11 in the country and qualified for the NAIA National Tournament for the sixth straight season. A season ago, the Lady Wildcats completed a 38-0 season by winning the NAIA National Championship. This past year, the Wildcats also broke a NAIA record for consecutive victories with 56.
