MARION, Ind. -- Indiana Wesleyan University senior right fielder Christi Church has been tagged as a NAIA All-American Honorable Mention selection for her play during the 2008 season.
"Christi Church has been an outstanding player for IWU throughout her college career. To see her selected as an NAIA-Honorable Mention All-American certainly brings her the honor she deserves," said Indiana Wesleyan head coach Sue Bowman.
Church led Indiana Wesleyan to a 20-19 record. She terrorized opposing pitchers with .464 average, eight home runs and 43 runs batted in. Church tallied a .508 on base percentage and an impressive .800 slugging percentage.
The Angola, Indiana native ranked in the NAIA top-10 in five categories. Church was ranked first in fielding percentage, fourth in RBIs per game, seventh in hits per game, eighth in total bases per game and ninth in slugging percentage.
Not only was Church a staple for the Wildcats on the field, she was equally successful in the classroom.
Bowman said, "Christi is not only a talented player, but she has also been an NAIA Academic All-American for the past two years."
Church finished her career at Indiana Wesleyan with a .387 average, 19 home runs and 128 RBIs.
