MARION, Ind. -- The Indiana Wesleyan University softball team traveled to Mexico for a mission trip in the Yucatan Peninsula from May 21-30.

Thirteen members of the softball team joined forces with seven Indiana Wesleyan nursing majors to witness through athletics and health clinics with Sports and Cultural Exchange International.

"This year's trip has probably been one of the most outstandingmission trips the IWU softball team has ever taken," said Indiana Wesleyan softball coach Sue Bowman."To see how our team bonded together with the seven IWU nursing students as ambassadors for Christ was truly a blessing."

The Wildcats played local competition and gave clinics to the opposing teams. During these times, the players were able to witness to the teams and share their testimony. The team also had salvation bracelets and player cards to pass out to opposing teams and children throughout the trip.

The softball games brought large crowds to watch the action and were a crux to preach the gospel to the community. Following games, a message was given and the crowds were able to interact with the Wildcats.

During the trip, the softball team was able to meet individuals at a small Mayan village, an orphanage, a school and a church.

"It was awesome to see the lives of our players change as they worked with the Maya Indians," said Bowman.

Sports and Cultural Exchange International states that 120 people made a confession of faith and 486 filled out a form saying they wanted to know more about the salvation message during the mission trip.
