MARION, Ind. -- The Indiana Wesleyan University golf team has signed NCAA Division I transfer Kyle Martin to a NAIA scholarship for the 2008-09 season.
Martin comes to Indiana Wesleyan from Northern Illinois University.
"From the very beginning Kyle was a perfect fit for the Wildcat golf team as a player and a mission fit," said Indiana Wesleyan golf coach Steve Evans. "He brings an impressive golf resume, including an impressive showing at the qualifier for the U.S. Open Championship in June."
The Winfield, Illinois native earned three letters in golf at Wheaton North High School. He was selected All-State and All-Area as a senior as he won his regional and placed eighth in the state. Martin is a two-time Dupage Valley All-Conference selection and holds the school record for the lowest score in the IHSA State Tournament.
The incoming sophomore joins a Wildcat team that only graduated one senior a year ago and captured the Mid-Central College Conference championship.
Said Evans, "His ability and D-I experience is expected to make an immediate impact on our program."
Indiana Wesleyan opens the 2008-09 season at home as the Wildcats host the IWU Fall Invitational on September 5-6 at Meshingomesia Country Club in Marion.
