CEDARVILLE, Ohio -- Sophomore midfielder Brittany Smith's deflected shot in the second minute of the match found the back of the net as the Indiana Wesleyan University women's soccer team defeated host Cedarville (Ohio) University 3-1 on Tuesday evening.
Freshman forward Kristin Perrine scored the eventual game-winning goal just 10 minutes later to give the Wildcats a 2-0 lead, which IWU took into intermission.
Cedarville cut the lead in half with a goal in the 70th minute of play after taking possession of a loose ball in the box.
But Indiana Wesleyan sophomore midfielder Megan Marshall scored an insurance goal for the Wildcats in the 85th minute. She received a through ball and beat the keeper to give Indiana Wesleyan the 3-1 advantage.
With the win, the Wildcats improve to 3-1-0 on the season.
Indiana Wesleyan returns to the pitch at 2 p.m. on Saturday, September 13, as the Wildcats travel to play Trinity International (Ill.) University.
