FALCONS HEIGHT, Minn. -- The Indiana Wesleyan University cross country teams participated in the Roy Griac Invitational on Saturday on the campus of the University of Minnesota.
The men and women's teams each finished ninth of 22 teams.
Pacing the men's team was senior Josh Foss who finished 15th in a time of 26:11. Fellow senior Bryan Hazel was close behind in 23rd after completing the course in 26:31 and freshman Ethan Naylor was 28th with a time of 26:37. Rounding out the Wildcats' scoring were senior Josh Miller (89th, 27:43) and junior Joel Liechty (94th, 27:52).
Drury (Mo.) University captured the team championship with 109 points.
The race was different for the women as they ran longer than the normal 5,000-meter run. Today they competed on a 6,000-meter course.
For the No. 14-ranked IWU women, freshman Bekah Bentle led the charge with a 21st place finish in a time of 23:45. Senior Christy Bea earned 38th in 24:14 and sophomore Melissa Morgan was two seconds later in 43rd. Close behind were Indiana Wesleyan's fourth and fifth runners as sophomore Cassidy Wagner (55th, 24:33) and junior Kailee Whitaker (57th, 24:44) were separated by one second.
Augustana (S.D.) cruised to the team title with 54 points.
Indiana Wesleyan will next compete in the IWU Invitational on Saturday, October 4.
