Cross Country - Sat, Oct 4, 2008

MARION, Ind. -- The Indiana Wesleyan University cross country teams each won at the IWU Invitational during Homecoming on Saturday morning.

Both teams placed first in their six team races.

The women earned the victory by placing their first five runners in the top-10. No. 14-ranked IWU tallied 32 points with Taylor (Ind.) University as runner-up with 53 points and Grace (Ind.) College in third with 62 points.

Cassidy Waggoner was the top runner for the Wildcats as she completed the 5,000-meter course in a time of 18 minutes 55 seconds. Christine Bea was close behind in fifth place in a mark of 18:57 while Beka Bentle was sixth in 18:59.

Melissa Morgan (19:13) ended the race in eighth and Laura Dziagwa (19:18) earned ninth to round out the Wildcat scoring.

Rachael Dean of Judson (Ill.) University won the individual title in a time of 18:39.

The men's race was much closer as the No. 18-ranked Wildcats edged Taylor 28-34. University of St. Joseph (Ind.) was third with 72 points.

Bryan Hazel was the lead runner for Indiana Wesleyan as he ended the morning second in 25:37. Ethan Naylor (25:52) cross the finish line in fourth and Josh Foss (26:17) placed fifth. Joel Liechty (26:36) finished seventh and Josh Miller (26:52) ended 10th to complete the Indiana Wesleyan scoring.

The individual winner was Michael Pabody from Taylor. He ran the 8,000-meter course in 25:31.

Indiana Wesleyan returns to action on Saturday, October 11, as the Wildcats participate in the Lucian Rosa Parkside Invitational in Kenosha, Wisconsin.
