MARION, Ind. -- Indiana Wesleyan University women's tennis holds a two point lead after day one of the Mid-Central College Conference tennis tournament being held at Indiana Wesleyan.

IWU went unbeaten on Thursday to gain nine points with Grace (Ind.) College and Taylor (Ind.) University tied for second with seven points.

Indiana Wesleyan entered doubles play with all three teams being the top-ranked tandems in their respected class.

Sophomore Eva Delk and Lisa Massey earned an 8-2 win in No. 1-doubles, senior Julia Hedgebeth and sophomore Caitlin McGuire scored an 8-0 shutout in No. 2-doubles while senior Laura Helm teamed with junior Courtney Kooyers to earn a 9-7 victory in No. 3-doubles. All three teams advance to the tournament semifinals set for Friday.

In singles competition, the Wildcats gained wins in each match they played.

Hedgebeth is the second seed in No. 1-singles and cruised to a 6-0, 6-0 victory. In No. 2-singles, No. 3-seed Massey easily advanced with a 6-1, 6-0 win while Delk, the top seed in No. 3-singles, earned a 6-2, 6-1 win. No. 1-seed in No. 4-singles, McGuire, was victorious 6-4, 7-5 and No. 5-singles top seed Kooyers won 6-0, 6-2. Helm completed the perfect day for the Wildcats as the No. 2-seed in No. 6-singles with a 6-3, 6-0 win.

Indiana Wesleyan will return to action at 1 p.m. on Friday, October 10, as the Wildcats continue in the semifinal portion of the MCC Tournament at the Sutter Tennis Center.
