UPLAND, Ind. -- The Indiana Wesleyan University men's tennis team won all nine matches in the first round of the Mid-Central College Conference Tournament on Thursday in Upland, Indiana.
The Wildcats sit atop the leader board with nine points. Goshen (Ind.) College and Taylor (Ind.) University are tied for second with six points.
Competition began at 9 a.m. on Thursday morning with singles play.
Sophomore Matt Pedersen, the second seed in No. 1-singles, earned a 7-5, 6-1 win and the No. 2 seed in No. 2-singles, junior Ben Bischoff, recorded a 6-0, 6-2 victory. Junior Carson VandenBossche won 6-1, 6-0 as the second seed in No. 3-singles while No. 2-seed in No. 4-singles, Luke Wright, advanced with a 6-0, 6-4 win. No. 5-singles top seed, sophomore Micah May, earned a 6-1, 6-0 victory and freshman Luke Montgomery won 6-2, 6-1 as the second seed in No. 6-singles.
The top-seeded team of Wright and Bischoff won 8-1 in No. 1-doubles as did the No. 2-doubles second-seeded team of Pedersen and VandenBossche by the identical score. In No. 3-doubles, the No. 1-seed of May and Montgomery claimed an 8-4 victory.
The MCC Tournament resumes at 9 a.m. on Friday, October 10, as the semifinal matches will be played at the Sutter Tennis Center at Indiana Wesleyan.
