GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. -- The Indiana Wesleyan University cross country teams participated in the NAIA Great Lakes Cross Country Invitational on Saturday in Grand Rapids, Michigan.
The women placed fourth of 20 teams and the men were eighth of 22.
In the women's race, Cedarville (Ohio) University won the invitational championship with 43 points. Azusa Pacific (Calif.) University was second with 65 points and Indiana Tech was third with 95 points. IWU earned 140 points for the fourth place finish.
Kailee Whitaker and Cassidy Wagner paced the Wildcat attack. Whitaker finished in 18 minutes 59 seconds and Wagner ended the race in 19:00 for 21st and 22nd place, respectively.
Completing the Indiana Wesleyan scoring were: Christy Bea (19:08) in 26th, Melissa Morgan (19:21) in 34th and Beka Bentle (19:24) in 37th.
Winning the 5,000-meter race was Jacky Kipwambok of Azusa Pacific in a time of 16:57.
For the men, Indiana Wesleyan tallied 215 points for eighth place, ahead of the other six Mid-Central College Conference teams competing at the event.
Indiana Tech won the team race with 58 points while Azusa Pacific was runner-up with 92 points.
Bryan Hazel was the lead runner for the Wildcats in 12th place with a finishing time of 25:38. Josh Foss was second for the team with a mark of 25:47, good for 19th.
Also scoring for the Wildcats were: Ethan Naylor (26:14) in 42nd, Joel Liechty (26:47) in 63rd and Josh Miller (27:17) in 79th.
Aron Rono of Azusa Pacific won the individual title with a time of 24:24 on the 8,000-meter course.
