MISHAWAKA, Ind. -- Bethel (Ind.) College defeated the Indiana Wesleyan University men's soccer team 1-0 on Saturday night in the Mid-Central College Conference Tournament championship match.
The match was played in Mishawaka, Indiana as Bethel was the top seed in the tournament. Both teams finished the MCC regular season with a 7-1-0 mark, but Bethel won the head-to-head match to earn the No. 1 seed.
Bethel struck early with a goal in the 16th minute of action to take a 1-0 lead. Despite trailing, Indiana Wesleyan controlled the first half of play as the Wildcats out-shot the Pilots 16-5.
The second half resembled the opening period as IWU had a 13-6 advantage in shots. But Bethel continued to deny Indiana Wesleyan as Pilot goalkeeper Scott Terry made 13 saves on the night.
Bethel advances to the NAIA National Tournament with the win.
Indiana Wesleyan is now 13-8-0 this season while Bethel improves to 13-6-1.
