MARION, Ind. -- The NAIA Volleyball National Tournament bracket was released on Sunday evening as Indiana Wesleyan University discovered their opening round opponent and destination.
Indiana Wesleyan will play Dordt (Iowa) College on Saturday, November 22 in Sioux Center, Iowa.
The NAIA released the 36-team field for the NAIA National Tournament with opening round byes and opening round pairings. The top 12 teams automatically advance to the final site of the national tournament in Sioux City, Iowa. The other 24 teams will play in the opening round with matches being contested at on-campus sites. The 12 teams to win on Saturday will advance to Sioux City, Iowa with the other 12 teams who earned automatic bids.
Indiana Wesleyan earned the right to compete in the national tournament by winning the Mid-Central College Conference Tournament. The Wildcats upset then No. 18-ranked Taylor (Ind.) University 3-2 in the championship match to earn the bid. IWU is currently 27-14 on the season and ranked No. 23 in the final NAIA poll.
Dordt is currently 31-7 this season and earned the No. 16 spot in the last poll. The Defenders earned an at-large bid to the tournament following a 3-1 loss to then No. 12-ranked Morningside (Iowa) College in the Great Plains Athletic Conference Tournament semifinals.
The national tournament appearance is the first ever for Indiana Wesleyan and the eighth for Dordt. The Defenders have tallied a 19-14 all-time record at the tournament.
