KENOSHA, Wis. -- The Indiana Wesleyan University cross country teams both finished in the top half of the 32-team field at the NAIA National Championships on Saturday in Kenosha, Wisconsin.
The women finished 11th and the men ended the day in 15th.
In the women's championship, Indiana Wesleyan earned 11th place despite the top Wildcat runner not finishing until 53rd place as the consistent pack running for Indiana Wesleyan all ended the race within 30 seconds of each other.
Junior Laura Dziagwa (53rd) was the first Wildcat to complete the 5,000-meter course in a time of 18:51. Senior Christy Bea (58th) also ran a sub-19 minute race with a finishing time of 18:55.
Sophomore Cassidy Wagner (69th) was close behind in 19:02 with freshman Rebekah Bentle (72nd) was three seconds behind at 19:05. Sophomore Melissa Morgan (91st) rounded out the Wildcat scoring in 19:20.
Junior Kailee Whitaker (101st) completed the course in 19:24 and sophomore Elyse Hulton (183rd) ran a 20:38.
Azusa Pacific (Calif.) University won the program's first ever women's cross country national championship with 66 points as three Cougars placed three runners in the top-10. Cedarville (Ohio) University concluded the day with their third straight national championship runner-up spot with 97 points.
Alissa McKraig of Indiana Tech captured the individual championship after crossing the line in a new meet record of 16:41.
The women's championship race featured 327 total runners and 217 runners in the team competition.
The men's championship race closed with Indiana Wesleyan garnering 390 points for a 15th place finish.
A pair of seniors once again led the Wildcats as Bryan Hazel (31st) completed the 8,000-meter course in 25:33 and Josh Foss (53rd) crossed the line in 25:47.
Freshman Ethan Naylor (72nd) was third for Indiana Wesleyan in 26:01 and junior Joel Liechty (104th) was next in a time of 26:28. The final runner to score for the Wildcats was senior Josh Miller (130th) in 26:47.
Also racing for Indiana Wesleyan was junior Doug Alles (142nd) in a time of 27:06 and freshman Ethan Laudermilch (170th) at 27:34.
Malone (Ohio) College put three runners in the top-10 to earn the men's team championship with 61 points. The title is the second straight for the Pioneers and third championship overall. Azusa Pacific was a distant runner-up with 118 points.
Aron Rono of Azusa Pacific won the individual crown for the second consecutive year. Rono raced to the title in a time of 23:45.
The men's race showcased 331 total competitors and 219 racers in the team competition.
