MARION, Ind. (results) -- Saturday afternoon Indiana Wesleyan University hosted the IWU Invitational at the Indoor Sports Complex. The invitational was a non-scoring meet.
The Wildcats captured five event wins in addition to one automatic qualifier and two provisional qualifiers for the NAIA national meet.
Sophomore Katelin Morgan automatically qualified for the women's long jump with a jump of 17 feet 11.5 inches. Provisional qualifiers for the national meet were senior Christy Bea with a time of 10 minutes 40.15 seconds in the women's 3,000-meter run and senior Bryan Hazel in the men's 3,000-meter run with a finishing time of 8:50.20.
Bea's time in the 3,000-meter run was fast enough for a first place finish.
Six other Wildcats on the women's team combined for three additional event wins.
Sophomore Angi Wolgemuth won the 600-meter run in 1:41.58, freshman Amanda Johnson raced to a 3:13.40 in the 1,000-meter run and the 4 x 800-meter relay team of junior Kailee Whitaker, junior Laura Dziagwa, sophomore Cassidy Wagner and senior Annie Lehman won in 9:58.25.
On the men's side, freshman Eric Brown finished the 800-meter run in 1:59.04 to win the event.
Indiana Wesleyan will next compete in the Taylor Invitational at 11 a.m. in Upland, Indiana.
