Women's Soccer - Sat, May 26, 2007
Indiana Wesleyan University is proud to announce the second annual High School Soccer Friendlies hosted by the men?s and women?s soccer programs on Saturday, July 21, 2007 at the athletic complex of IWU in Marion, Indiana. Twenty high school soccer programs will be participating on this one day event which involves each team playing two games with each half consisting of 30 minutes in length. Ten boy?s teams and ten girl?s teams will be playing competition outside of their regular fall schedule which gives them the opportunity to play teams, players, styles and systems of play they would not normally experience.
The main purpose of the Friendlies is to allow high school coaches the opportunity to get a preview of how their team is projected for the fall. Winning is not top priority which gives the coaches the freedom to try different players in different roles and maybe try out younger players with the upper classmen to see how effective they are. This event also allows teams to see how other programs from around the state are developing outside of their normal fall schedule.
Another bonus of this event is exposure of the beautiful campus of IWU to many players and coaches from around the state. In between games, players have the option to tour the campus and find out what IWU has to offer upon their graduation from high school.
Team participating this year vary from local programs (Marion, Oak Hill) to Fort Wayne (Snider, Homestead) to Indianapolis (Sheridan, Ritter, Roncalli) to as far as Cleveland, Tennessee (Bradley).
Head women?s coach Dr. John Bratcher and men?s coach Mark Castro are excited about this event to not only showcase the university but also it gives them the opportunity to watch and evaluate potential collegiate players for their respective programs.
Admission is free to watch the games so come out and catch a glimpse of what the exciting high school soccer season has in store for the fall.
