Coach Abbott enters his fourth season as pitching coach at Indiana Wesleyan University. The pitching staff in 2010 saw improvements in ERA, complete game and total strikeouts. In 2009, Abbott saw Josh Worrell garner an All-Conference selection and a selection in the 30th round of the major league draft by the Kansas City Royals.
Prior to his arrival at IWU, Abbott spent one season at Manchester (Ind.) College and was the pitching coach for Huntington (Ind.) University from 1998-2007. During that time Abbott was part of a Huntington team that played in five consecutive NAIA regional tournaments.
Abbott also spent 18 seasons as the head coach at Eastbrook High School. His tenure at Eastbrook included three sectional titles, one regional title and a Final Four appearance in 1999. Abbott also led his Eastbrook teams to seven Grant 4 Titles, a MIC and CIC title. Abbott was honored as Grant County Coach of the Year seven times, was a three-time IHSBCA District Coach of the Year, and head coach of the North team during the 2004 North-South All-Star Game.
He is the current assistant executive director of the Indiana High School Baseball Coaches' Association.
Abbott played collegiate ball at Huntington. Abbott and his wife Trisha have a son named Tyler, and a daughter Briley. The couple resides in Huntington.
