Indiana Wesleyan University has signed Steven Laake to a NAIA baseball scholarship beginning in the 2008-09 school year.
During his junior season campaign at Centerville High School in Centerville, Ohio, Laake batted .396 while accumulating a .446 slugging percentage from the corner infield positions. As a pitcher, Laake went 4-1 with a 1.60 earned run average. The six foot two inch Laake plays for the Patterson Park Dayton Classics during the summer.
“We are ecstatic to have a student-athlete of Steven’s caliber coming to Indiana Wesleyan University,” IWU baseball head coach Mark DeMichael said. “On the field, Steven will bring a strong presence from the left side of the plate and is also a strong defensive player both at third base and first base. I also believe he will be able to contribute on the mound as a freshman.”
Laake also brings a strong credential from the classroom to Indiana Wesleyan.
“Most importantly, Steven is an honors student who takes his academics very seriously and is a strong young man of character,” said DeMichael. “I believe he represents everything that we want Wildcat Baseball to be about.”
Steven is the son of David and Lori Laake.
