Indiana Wesleyan University head coach Candace Moats has announced that Temecula Valley High School senior Brooke Atwell will continue her career at Indiana Wesleyan in the fall of 2009.

Atwell is a 5-10 outside hitter from Temecula, California. She is a four year letter winner in volleyball and was captain of her high school team her senior year. She was also selected to play on the Premier Volleyball Club which is one of the elite clubs in Southern California.

Atwell is a four time winner of the Coach's Award which is one of the highest awards a student-athlete can earn with emphasis in leadership, commitment, and sportsmanship. This season Atwell earned the Victory with Honor Sportsmanship patch given to one athlete each year representing outstanding play, as well as, good sportsmanship and consideration of opponents.

Atwell started playing club volleyball with the 16-elite team which qualified for the Junior Olympics. The following year she earned captain status on her 17-elite Viper team, as well as, her 18-elite Club Premier team.

According to her club coach Todd O'Malley, "Brooke is an amazing young lady who is on our top 18-1 team. She is an outside/right side with amazing ball control and an even better attitude. Out of 15 years of coaching, she is one of the hardest working, most respectful kids I have ever been around."

Brooke is also a member of the California Junior Scholarship Foundation where she earned honor roll status both her freshmen and sophomore year.

"Brooke has had a lot of experience competing against elite athletes in Southern California while playing for Premier Volleyball Club," says Moats. "I am impressed with her physical and mental toughness, and feel she can be a strong contributor on both the offensive play at the net and defensive skill needed in the backcourt. She also brings a strong Christian background and demonstrates high character and leadership skills needed to continue the high moral standards of our program."

Atwell is a Nursing major and desires to use her skills overseas some day to assist less privileged children with medical needs. She loves Indiana Wesleyan and believes with all her heart that God led her to this team for a reason.
