Indiana Wesleyan University women's basketball head coach Steve Brooks announces his fourth signing for the 2009-2010 basketball season. Lindsey Whitcomb, a four year letter-winner at Washington Township High School, has signed a letter of intent to further her education and play basketball at Indiana Wesleyan.
Whitcomb, a 6-2 center, averaged 15.0 points and 9.3 rebounds per game during her senior season at Washington Township. While helping lead the team to a share of the Porter County Conference championship, Whitcomb shot 48-percent from the field and averaged 5.4 blocks per game.
Whitcomb tallied seven games where she recorded seven or more blocks with a high game of 13. Whitcomb also registered eight double-doubles on the season and one triple double (19 points, 15 rebounds, 10 blocks).
Prior to the start of her senior season, Whitcomb was named by website Region Roundball Review as part of their Northwest Indiana Senior Seven, highlighting the seven best seniors in that area. Whitcomb was honored as a two-time all-area and Porter County All-Conference player and was recently named to the Hoosier Basketball Magazine Top 100 Seniors. Whitcomb finishes her career ranked third on the all-time scoring list with 918 points.
Whitcomb said, "I was very impressed with both the academic and athletic areas of IWU. I feel it is a good fit for me and a place where I can do well. I feel that I will be pushed to be the best I can be and that was a huge factor for me."
"The coaches and players of the Lady Wildcat basketball program are so excited to have Lindsey as a part of our program," said Brooks, "At 6-2, she will bring much needed size and toughness. She has a good touch and can even step out and shoot the 3. Her intensity and passion for basketball are obvious and we look forward to her many contributions over the next four years."
Indiana Wesleyan finished the 2008-09 season 24-10 and ranked No. 19 in the country. The Wildcats qualified for their seventh straight trip to the NAIA National Tournament, advancing to the Sweet 16. In 2007-08, the Lady Wildcats completed a 38-0 season by winning the NAIA National Championship.
