Indiana Wesleyan University women's basketball head coach Steve Brooks announced his fifth and final signing for the 2011-2012 basketball season. Ashley Slade, a 5-10 guard/forward, is a transfer from Armstrong Atlantic State (Ga.) University.
Slade will enter as a sophomore and have three years of eligibility remaining.
Slade averaged nine points per game during her freshman year as a starter for Armstrong Atlantic State. She shot 40-percent from the 3-point line and 87-percent from the free throw line. Her season highs were 18 points and five rebounds against Francis Marion.
During her prep career, Slade was a four-year starter for Kingsley High School in Kingsley, Michigan. She is the all-time leading scorer in both boys and girls basketball at Kingsley. Slade set a State of Michigan record for consecutive free throws made by hitting 43 in a row and she was a four-time All-Conference and All-Region performer. In her junior and senior years, Slade was named All-State and in her senior year was named to the prestigious Detroit News Dream Team.
"Ashley Slade comes to our program with a tremendous ability to score the basketball. She is a prolific 3-point shooter who can shoot from deep," said Brooks. "We are very excited to have Ashley as a part of our program.
"She is an outstanding student who believes in the mission of Indiana Wesleyan University," continued Brooks. "Having helped lead her Kingsley High team to the State Finals, Ashley has a winning attitude that we like here at IWU. We look forward to her many contributions to our program over the next three years."
